Archipelago
A private way to experience Gothenburg by the water.
The archipelago is one of Gothenburg’s defining experiences: granite, ferries, small harbors, sea air and islands that feel close to the city and far from it at the same time.

More than a pretty view
The islands carry stories of fishing, trade, smuggling, military history, summer life, geology and everyday communities. Parts of the landscape first emerged from the sea thousands of years ago, and the villages still make more sense when someone explains why they were built where they are.
With a guide, the archipelago becomes easier to read: why roads are narrow, why some islands are car-free, where people live year-round, how the ferry system works, and what you would miss if you simply stepped off the boat and walked straight past it.
Southern or northern archipelago?
The southern islands are car-free and are reached by passenger ferry. The islands north of Gothenburg along the coast of Bohuslän are best reached by boat, with amazing coastal views. The best choice depends on season, time available, mobility, and the kind of day you want.
Ways to visit
You can request a guided island walk, a city-and-coast combination, a ferry-based visit, a luxury sedan or van, or a private boat where possible. Private boats depend on timing, season, weather and supplier availability. Third-party arrangements are quoted separately.
Styrsö and beyond
Slow down enough to notice.
A good archipelago visit is not just about reaching an island. It is about noticing the coastline, the village structure, the plants, the ferries, the stories and the quiet rules of island life.
